What my Child is NOT reading.

We had a long trip to make so I borrowed Blue Balliett's 'The Wright Three' on CDs.  I would have preferred the first one 'Chasing Vermeer' but the library didn't have that one.  (I did get it in paperback though)

I followed the recommendation of 'Almost Unschoolers'  because she always has the best books!

Anyway we were enjoying the story very much.  Or rather Daddy (driving) and Dude (never sleeps in the car) were.  I heard snippets as every time Little One or Baby Girl woke up I caught a new portion.

Unfortunately on disk 4 track 11 it started skipping.  Nothing could be done to get the CD back on track, and instead of arriving home to learn 'who done it' I awoke to a very cranky husband.

First thing this AM Dude asked me "Did you reserve the book?"

Of course I did.

Though if you want my honest opinion, the book relies far to heavily on coincidences.  Not enough actual detective work.  Though the story is compelling enough I want to learn how it ends.

Dude also wants me to request HG Wells 'Invisible Man'.  And Princess wants to see the 'Robie house';.  I found a couple books that they should like.

Linking up with 'What My Child is Reading" at Mouse Grows, Mouse Learns.

  1. Skipping discs are the worst! You're right - these books aren't "great mysteries", and they rely a bit too much on the super natural for my comfort, and the characters tend to over intellectualize EVERYTHING - but the follow up activity possibilities are terrific :)

  2. Yeah, I am glad I found out about them, because of all the other things the kids are checking out.

  3. We are finishing “Kidnapped” by Robert Louis Stevenson. We recently read “Treasure Island.” I wish I had read those earlier in life. They are a lot of fun.

  5. We like audio books here too. As I reported, we sort of struggled through the first Chronicles of Narnia last week. Thanks for joining WMCIR!
