I was reminded of my journal, weekly wrap up idea by Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers and absolutly loved the 'dustbunnies comment. She must be living a life like mine! (except she is losing weight while I think I am gaining)
I also checked in on 'Mouse Grows Mouse Learns' looking for WMCIR and found her wrap up. I loved the grades, so old school and a cute way to keep track of a week, if it isn't all going perfect, at least you can see if it is better or worse than last.
But before I could possibly post a weeks wrap up I had to know what on earth I was talking about. (you can see where my kids get their lack of writing abilities from!) I took a quick peek over to The Homeschool Chick to see what her prompts were.
I also love how two out of three posts comment on how wonderful IEW is! I don't even think they follow the same blog circles! Wonder if that is something I should pay attention to with my hatred of the writing thing.....
In my Life this week.
I have a life? How about those dust bunnies, I have plenty of them. Quite frankly I have plenty of dirty dishes, dirty laundry, clean laundry (that needs folded and put away) and a todo list a mile long. Plus that whole organization thing is really starting to drive me crazy (short trip I know).
Homeschool this week.
We learned Chocolate malts are not all they are cracked up to be. (seriously people pay for them?) And that the scientific theory of less pressure doesn't hold up in practice. (squeezing the air out of a bottle of soda water doesn't keep it fizzy.) Each of the three middle kids decided they couldn't do math for a day. Different days, first Little Man on Monday, then Baby Girl on Tuesday, and finally Princess on Wednesday. Surprisingly Dude did not follow suit on Thursday. Really why do kids get in these weird fits?
Places we're going, people we're seeing.
Today was the scout Derby. We all had cars entered, well not Little One! My poor husband had to cut out six derby cars!
It was a wonderful event, or so I heard. See while the kids are racing cars, I am organizing planning, signing, and collecting fees. Judging by the happy, but exhausted children it was a success. I hope everyone had a great time, otherwise all the work and hassle wouldn't be worth it.
I have so many great leaders working for me I shouldn't complain. From the amazing mom who offered to make me a sandwich and accepted, without blinking, my request that she instead make one for my husband, to the patient fellow who writes out ALL names on the awards (his is the only handwriting we can read out of our pack!) Then there is the leader who pulled through with lunch at the last minute (seriously he walked in at 10:30 heard we needed lunch and had it ready by 11:30!-with the help of Harris Teeter donations and his ever patient wife!) Of course none of the work would be possible without constant help holding both Baby Girl, and Little One who are just too young to wait through everything. I think just about every adult there took a turn in that task!
I had patient parents help with being line judges, and creative judges (every car has to have an award you know!) And helping boys line up for the free races, Photography to share online and at the end, nearly all the clean up was done while I changed a diaper.
And last but not least, my patient husband who suffers through being the first to all events, the last to leave. He is the 'fill in guy' doing whatever needs done, whenever it needs done. All without even a real sandwich (we ran out of bread!). He leads whatever den needs him, sometimes with creative combining, helps every boy have fun, learn something, and feel respected. All with a patient smile (and this week a toothache)
That would be my favorite thing this week. realizing I have such amazing help.
Working not working? - Complaining, I really aught to do less of it. Might help the kids cut down too?
Homeschool questions thoughts - What is the 'perfect thing' to say to someone who is considering homeschool so they will just go do it already?
No photo...I guess I should get Princess to email me some stuff she has been working on in 'MS paint' to share.
I hope there are photos of the cars and kids! Wish I could have been there to take a turn holding kids. You married a keeper (and so did he).
ReplyDeleteWait, Why 6? You have 5 kids, One of which isn't even 1 yet
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you linked up with me! You just HAVE to look into IEW. My son hated writing and I kind of hated teaching it too. All of that has changed, and I have IEW to thank for it.
ReplyDeleteThe 'perfect' thing to say to someone considering homeschooling? Hmmm...Um, how about "Give it a try. If you hate it, you can always try something else." -LOL :)
Blessings to you,
Sue
love that idea! They already tried and don't like PS, why not try it.
ReplyDeletespeaking of try it, I aught to try IEW....
Nana - both husband and I entered cars.
