Reedy Creek Nature Center is AWESOME

Today we headed down to the nature center.  First the kids stopped at the outdoor 'natural' play area.  They have a simple playhouse, some outdoor xyophones, several stations of blocks, and a large area set aside for kids to build whatever they like with long bamboo poles and some fabric.  Plus several pre-made frames.

The kids had a good time in spite of the mugginess.   We also spent some time indoors, the kids had a chance to play with a microscope.  It took several tries to learn how to adjust the focus.  Once Dude had it figured out, they looked at all kinds of things.  The set up is a fairly sturdy

I love that there is a place that we can go to look at live animals, learn about them, and goof off outdoors.

I was thinking the author of 'Last child in the woods' would like their attempts to let kids play outdoors.  Building forts or digging in the dirt.  Most of the trails are rather specific, folk need to 'leave no trace'.  But the outdoor area is specifically designed for kids to leave their mark.  Though of course the next group of kids will leave their own on top.

While there I also managed to set up a class for the Girl Scouts and the Cub Scouts.  At only $3 per person the price is right.
