Speed science

I was thinking there were an awful lot of experiments to complete in a week by doing one chapter per week.  Then I peeked at my checklist, you know AO only assigned one experiment per week, not one chapter?

So we are now done with science for the whole term according to AO!

I have no intentions of taking a break from fun science though.  Just might have to find a few different books to get the ideas from so we don't jump to far ahead.

This week we played with buoyancy and saturation.  Here is one about a floating egg.  Here is an interesting one about solutions I think we might try it.  We also did a simple one about freezing water with and without salt.  The semi frozen chunks were more fun than the science.  Dude said the one cup with a small amount of water made an awesome ice chair when partially frozen.

Since we did all but one of the experiments before I realized we didn't need to go at breakneck speed, I decided to see if I could fake one and make lemonade.  I keep trying to figure out how to make it without white sugar.  I think if we boil the honey and water we might mange to get it to mix in better.

Not sure if that is totally related, but I sure could use the excuse to find out!

The one experiment we didn't do was rock candy.  I have tried multiple times in the past with no success.  I think something about not really having enough space to truly leave anything alone untouched for more than a couple hours is part of the problem.

Sometime over the next few weeks we are taking a trip to PA, leaving home for a couple days.  I thought the day we left would be a good time to start the sugar solution.  No one in the house guarantees no disturbing it!  If I can only remember amongst the million and one other things we have to do before we go.
