There is a book titled 'Better Early than Late" I have never had the chance to read it, but heard the basic premise many times. Essentially the premise seems to be that it is better not to place a child in formal schooling until at least 8 or better 10. Children who have done so have managed to catch up to the knowledge base others may have acquired in the last 2-4 years of school within the year and often manage to even surpass their peers academically.
Statistically speaking you can pass your GED with only 50-100 hours of instruction (that is less than a month of working on it) So why do we require kids to spend 12-14 years working in the same info?
I fully agree with the premise of the book. It is far better to wait before placing a child into mass education. But I do not wait to teach my own.
And the reason just might be how much cuter a tiny tot is while learning Latin than an 8 year old. This morning while I did enjoy hearing my two oldest kids work on some new Latin words, I have to say the cutest part was Baby Girl saying 'I a Bermana' (germana -sister)
Sure she mangled the words terribly, but did I mention how cute she looked?
