Elephants and Hair clips

From Dude: Who used elephants for war like 'oliphants' from lord of the rings? This is the sort of thing I start my day with, normal folk have questions like 'what's for breakfast?', I on the other hand have to dredge up ancient history. Fortunately I played Age of Empires, I know war elephants were used by the asian-ish faction...pretty nifty and rather deadly but kinda slow. Hmm, not quite what he was looking for. Ok off to wiki.

Apparently they were used by multiple cultures, of course starting off in India, where Elephants (used to) abound. It wasn't until the advent of the cannon that they became rather useless in foot battle. Even then they had their 'war uses'

Elephants were apparently more deadly than a calvary charge, because mere infantry with spears could not stop them. I would be rather scared to see an elephant charging at me with full armor on, even if it was 'only' 30KPH (I love how Wiki uses Kilometers)

here is another nice site with lots of photos war elephant

Of course while looking at a map to see just how far Greece is from Africa and Asia (not far) We had a new question "Isn't Kazakhstan where Russia launches their space stuff from?" Umm, I have no idea, and quite frankly googling that question didn't reveal a straight answer, but after checking several shuttle wiki's we found most were stored in hangars there, so I guess so? OOh Momma got smart (ish) Russian Space Port yep that is in Kazakhstan.

See my kids need a smarter mother! (or I need to start sending them to Daddy with all the tough questions)

Ah now on to lunch questions...
From Princess: Can we look up 'hair clips' in Spanish, so we can say 'Hola, would you like a hair clip' on World Thinking Day? I love how she knows full well I will have to look it up! Though I do know hair is cabe--something. (cabeza? thats head) cheveux? no thats French. Oh never mind google translator to the rescue!

"Hola, ¿quieres un clip de cabello?"

They are making hair clips for their 'swap' to share with folk at WTD, pretty nifty idea, I love my leader for thinking of it!

I think google is educations best friend!
