What's for breakfast?

I have been asked be many what we eat, some to find out how we can afford to be 'healthy', others wondering just what we call healthy. So I thought I would share the 'breakfast menu'. I do not plan any particular breakfast in advance, though occasionally I cook the night before some kind of 'cake' that we will have. But I do have a goal of foods to eat each week, any old day will do.

And I'll let you in on a secret, toast and fruit is an old standby, while I try not to let it be breakfast too often, I know the kids will find it if I need to sleep in. So you can be sure right around a new baby here, the kids have the SAME thing every day, toast and fruit!

Fruit is whatever we have, usually we get one or two kinds that were on sale each week, and we always have apples, applesauce, raisins, and craisins (dried cranberries).

The 'grain' can either be oatmeal, toast, leftover biscuits or corn bread.

Oatmeal is always plain, we add our own flavor, I avoid the sugar loaded packets. I let the kids pick from honey, brown sugar, molasses, or maple syrup. Plus any spices they like.

When I make a cake it often has the fruit baked in, IE Apple cake or Pumpkin cake. (cake being relative, it is in a cake pan, but not buttery, and not too sweet.)

So there you have it, breakfast, somewhat cheap and healthy.
