What is a Cell

This week in Biology we have been looking at Cells.  (of course we looked at the Wiki)

I found this video narrated by 5th graders which was cute.

And this one by Khan which is VERY in depth, except where he says 'but we covered that in other videos'.  I am frustrated at not getting a  clear overview, but the kids are pestering me to watch the videos where he explains the extra points.  So I guess it is doing it's job, keeping them intrigued.

Then I found this cute printable by Crayola, basic parts of a cell.  Princess will love coloring it, Dude will be glad to have the labels somewhere he can see them.  (actually it popped up on my Pinterest news feed, love that site!)

Speaking of Pinterest, I put 'cells' in the search engine and came up with these interesting sites:

Eukarote vs Prokaryote  (Dude was quite cute when he saw those words again "Hey that's the same stuff the Khan guy was talking about!")

Plant vs animal cells rendered to look like globes rather than the usual flat drawing

And this looks quite cute, especially for Little Man, but I doubt it is worth joining (though if money was no object I am all for supporting small homeschool businesses)

This site seems to have it all covered.

Sharing this photo with the kids, helped them see how many different kinds of cells there are.

Several books have been requested from the library, but apparently none of them were ready for this week.
Which is fine, one lovely thing about homeschooling, the kids are generally willing to learn something new, about an 'old topic'.  I have never found them unwilling to take another look at an interesting subject.
