Books are meant to be finished

I have discovered something about myself over the past few years.  Books were meant to be finished.  I hate reading just part of a good book.  I also hate spending three years reading one book.

I quit, I am finishing the good books we find, and I am doing it at a reasonable rate of speed.

I get the point of taking time to really think about and internalize a good story, so no speed reading.  But I think 3 years is a bit too long.

I think that is why I got all bogged down last year and skipped a few of my least favorite books, at some point you start to dread the once a week chapter.  Better to rip the bandaid off all at once if it is needed.  (and the day is too short to spend reading books that aren't worth it!)

We finished 'Story of the World, Ancient Times' and are about to finish 'Child's History of the World' this week. Over the next month we plan to finish a few other recommended (and good) books.  One chapter a day seems to work well.  slow enough we can talk about what we read, fast enough to feel we are actually accomplishing something.
