Last week the Barnes and Nobel began their 2011 'Imagination's Destination' reading challenge. Only 8 books for the prize.
And yet the Library doesn't start their challenge until mid June. I assume marketing suggests starting before school lets out.
Around here it generally takes a week, maybe two for each challenge. So I make the kids do them one at a time. Not that they really need any incentive to read. It is just nice to have a reward sometimes.
The library used to give free food coupons, or some kind of toy related to the theme of the year. Last year they offered a free book, or a 'book buck' - money to go for the library buying a book. The kids each went for one book buck, and one book. (Library has a halfway goal, and a full prize)
Of all the prizes offered, I really prefer the free food. Though my waistline does not need another Wendy's frosty!
