Doing something is better than doing nothing - but think before you act.
Have you ever been paralyzed by perfection? The fear that you can't possibly do it right, so you don't do anything at all? Or the never ending planning session trying to find the perfect path to get everything done, that takes up all the time for doing?
I often have this problem, mostly I have learned that a false start is better than no start, there doesn't seem to be a judge disqualifying me for having to start over, or stop for a break. Though I also know that a little forethought saves plenty of time in the doing.
Look before you leap - but have faith
If I had only known what was really being asked of me as a scout leader, I NEVER would have accepted the job. Not that I asked for it, mostly these things fall in my lap. I try to understand what I am taking on before I accept a volunteer position. Though nothing could have prepared me for parenthood. All the looking before I took that first leap was completely unable to prepare me for the joys, the trials, and the sheer ridiculousness. (really you have to teach them not to put snot in their hair? And don't lick the floor!) Fortunately I have faith I can manage - I think?
or drink out of the dogs dish?! I'll never forget that one!
