Princess is trying to have pretty handwriting

No idea where this comes from.  Well actually I do have a good idea.  Princess has always been artistic, she likes pretty things.  So a few notes on how her handwriting could be easily improved and some days she tries.

She still has her days where work is dashed off as quickly as possible with obvious errors.  But many of her days this month have been spent working on nice careful words.  I am loving it.

I made a simple cursive alphabet book for both her and Dude and planned to bribe them to finish it.  Princess surprised me by completing most of it without question or assignment.  I figured I would ruin it by bribery so her older brother hasn't finished his yet.

I went online looking for a few more cursive pages for her to practice, printed a few, but nothing is really perfect.  I will prolly make another book for her.

I also made a book for Little Man of printing, he finished his (again without assignment) so I need to work up something for him.  He was rather disappointed that I didn't make his book cursive.  I wonder if I should make a cursive one for him, or just stick with printing.

I have heard it is easier to teach children to just use cursive from the start, but I am not sure I agree, at this age the fine motor skills leave cursive a touch out of reach for most.  If I were to have a formal school I think I would not only put the entrance age at 9 or even 10, I would start with cursive.  Having kids chomping at the bit to learn here at home, I will prolly stick with printing.

  1. Would Princess like to try some calligraphy?

  2. I can't wait to see your examples of how your handwriting has evolved! I am obsessed with the different forms that hand writing takes. I love collecting old postcards just to see the writing.
