One of the most fascinating things to watch is a young baby with a new toy. They pick it up, maybe pass it from hand to hand, or hold it in both hands, then they usually eat it. Once they discover it isn't really food they tend to bang it on the floor once or twice. Some how that is supposed to change something. Then they grab it again for a few more bites.
They repeat this pattern over and over again. Generally with some variety in the number of knocks and which part they try to shove in their mouth.
How is it that a kid can have infinite patience to bang a toy on the floor, and yet none to wait for milk, or a fresh diaper?
Babies seem fascinated by grown up 'toys'. They will spend enormous time trying to understand how we use keyboards, or phones. Almost like each new day is a new chance to figure out the wonderful adult world.
Then they get to be 8 and suddenly if it doesn't work on the first try they throw up their hands and cry.
What happened to the persistent baby?
Huh, mine don't wait until they are 8 to do that!!!
