Note taking while reading

Dude was in my room reading a biology book.  (Usborne Illustrated Dictionary of Biology-heavy but pretty)  I thought the room was cold so I brought him a blanket.  As I placed it on him he asked "Mom can I get some paper and write some of the stuff I want to remember down?"

Of course I went and found him paper right away!  Then I thought to myself how awesome is that, my kid taking notes without me asking.  I also thought it was quite strange that Dude was that interested in biology.  He is more of a mathematician than botanist.  (Little Man is more of a naturalist, though biology is ok in his book)

Much later after nap was over and the kids were all in the living room, I discovered the stack of library books and his notes left on my bed.  Of course he forgot to put them away.  I took a peek at what he wanted to remember.

Animal Cell X 1,000,000 need Depends ---> Bush X 50.000
Cambium X20,000 in between need 200

And many more lists of Stoma, phloem and such with numbers beside them.  This isn't from the book folks.  It is the beginnings of yet another game!  He wanted to write down the biology terms to create a game where you need animal cells to make animals (and apparently bushes for the animals to eat maybe?)  I don't know the rules but it seems to make bones you need some marrow.

Ah well, I suppose it will help him remember the vocabulary if nothing else!

  1. And he had to do all that reading to find the terms he wanted - that has to count for something!

  2. My five year old loves to make lists about the things he is reading.
