Ask and ye shall receive. I love how willing my mother is to support our homeschooling. Even to the point of buying a Greek curriculum for a 7 year old!
It came in the mail last week, and right off the bat Princess wanted to play the game. One major problem, I couldn't find directions in the very flimsy cheap plastic box. It obviously had over a hundred cards, of varying colors. I was pretty sure the colors corresponded to chapters or levels so I really didn't want to mix them up. And as anyone with a 2 year old will tell you the chances of them coming out and not getting mixed up were pretty small. I eventually was able to find the directions after bedtime. So far looks like the directions are for memory, Old Maid , and Go fish. Nothing to out of the ordinary. Not sure what I was expecting.
We took the CD to the car to listen too, the songs are mostly traditional children's songs using partial Greek words. "Brother John" and the like, with a few I didn't recognize (though this is not my specialty) So far the kids have enjoyed the music, but haven't really gleaned any words from it. The Greek Alphabet song is slow and not as much fun as the one we found on youtube. And the most annoying thing to me, they add 'uh' to all the letter sounds.
We did pop the DVD in right away and watch the 'Intro to the Alphabet'. The kids were super excited that the same guy who does the Latin was doing the Greek, though none of them really wanted to watch the guy write all 24 letters of the alphabet. We have also watched week 1. The guy talks to fast for me to really understand the pronunciation. The video is really for the teacher, not meant to go straight to the kids.
I am looking forward to the actual lessons, but I am also a bit worried about the amount of writing required. As I have mentioned my kids very much dislike writing. I know that to really learn Greek we need to learn to write the letters but I still worry.
:) Glad to help, as is Morfar (I couldn't help if he didn't work so hard)
