A flower growing

Dude listened to one of Beethoven's sonatas the other day and decided to do a composer project of drawing a picture while he listened.  He actually drew a series of pictures, he felt the music was 'growing like a flower'  and so he made a mini book showing that.

His artistry leaves something to be desired, but having him actually listening and thinking about the music is pretty cool.  Composer study is one of the CM habits I really thought I would drop by the wayside long ago, so I find it a bit surprising how much the kids and I enjoy it.  (Though of course it might be due to me taking every couple weeks off of classical to enjoy more modern music.)

One of these days I might actually feel inclined to insist that the kids memorize where and when the composer wrote, but for now I am simply glad they enjoy the music and can occasionally express what it 'feels like'.

  1. When I play music to my little ones I just casually say who the composer is and then if they like a particular piece they will ask what the name of it is. I help them learn the names so they can ask for what they particularly like. It is all informal, but I find they like to put labels on what they like,

  2. Don't see why they should need to know where or even when, who and enjoying it seems like enough and it is awesome he made a book. Hopefully I can see it someday!
