While lamenting yet again a late start, I decided that in addition to one of the stories I would read the kids a bit out of the Bible. I thought I would try Proverbs, and for no particular reason started at the very beginning.
"The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: For attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding and words of insight;"...
Well goodness, that is exactly what all my efforts are for. To attain wisdom and discipline for myself and for my family! That is why I try to get up reasonably early, to read good books, and to teach them good things.
Finished up with verse 7 : "The fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom, and discipline." Just as I was reading that line, one of the kids was whining, another yelling at his sister, and another acting a fool. I seem to have a few fools here.
Princess said 'I don't want to get wisdom, I want to be a goofball!' Umm yeah apparently we have a long way to go!
I told her being a wise goofball would be better. We talked about how a fool is one who doesn't learn, and never controls themself. While a goofball is just someone who likes to have fun. Being a wise goofball would be one who knows when to have fun, and when to get serious. (and how to have fun while doing serious work).
