Computer's up, Computers down, Please stay up and running, Please?

My computer has been giving me on again off again trouble for weeks now.  Nothing major enough to use as an excuse to buy a new one (even if I had the money) but nothing simple enough to be fixed and stay fixed.

So here I am again, with the on.  After my husband patiently scrubbed it clean of all viruses, malware, bugs, and downloaded, then re-downloaded chrome.  And then repeated that process a couple times.  I might be able to use this today, tomorrow is anyone's guess.

While the computer has been out of commission I have been heavily reminded how much I rely on it.  First for the reading, most of the books we read are not only listed online (what chapter are we on anyway?)  The text comes from online!  Pretty hard to read Shakespeare without Shakespeare.

Plus there is the wonderful world of Starfall.com  I have been patiently writing tons of letters for Baby Girl, and coming up with all sorts of objects for each.  Pointing her to the computer with a big brother to control the mouse is so much faster and easier.

My ability to search and print papers, craft directions and recipies has been severely comprimised as has my ability to just 'google it'.  Nothing worse than an unanswered question.

I recently read an article about a homeschooler who started 'back in the day' before Google!  I am not sure how.  I should know, since I was educated back then (at home)  But I seem to have forgotten.  I think the best answer to a question was 'look it up' and I rarely if ever bothered to do so. (sorry)

I figure one day we will have 'history day' and see if we can manage without any computers. (mine was the only one down for the week) Kinda like folk used to go without electricity when I was young.  Come to think of it, what sort of 'history day' would Laura Ignalls Wilder have had?  She did have 'fancy' cast iron pots and tools, and knives.  Did any folk at that time try their hand at using rock tools just to see what history was like?
