In keeping with my goal of letting the kids have more freedom over when they do things, and in some ways what they do. I decided to try something my mother used to do. She would set a goal of what needed to be done and when. Usually a handwritten note on the fridge. I know at times it was weekly others it was monthly, still others even longer. But usually it meant I could run straight through my favorite parts and drag out the worst.
Mom never managed to teach me nice handwriting, so I am using the computer for my kids list.
Some of these projects we have already started, like the AO reading. Others are brand new.
Most of this is far less than they are capable of if they decided to buckle down and plow through everything, which means they have some leway in goofing off. (and of course a choice of taking the stuff on trips or leaving it behind. Earlier I planned out a schedule of when kids should be working on what, and I am keeping with it for music and other things they can't overlap on (only one kid can practice piano at one time). But I am going to be less stringent on the math and writing and such. Other than the reading that really needs all kids together the details are up to them.
Some of the goals on here were picked with them, others are just Mommy said so. We have had talks regarding what the kids want to do and what they want to learn. All of them hope to get really good at math 'so doing bills and stuff is easy'. And all hope to learn enough writing so that 'they can tell folk cool stories'. Dude wants to learn Latin 'just cause it is cool'. And of course music and nature falls under cool as well.
Since I love my todo page list so much I put their project list as a page too.
Once I created the list, and the project options list; I shared it with the kids, they were super excited to start the projects. Dude sat down and began his 'aquarium' program immediately. The other two were trying to clean up legos to do their own, but kept getting sidetracked watching Dude. ( I promise to find a way to share the program with you)
