Anatomy 'class' (for little kids)

While reading an article on how to make ice cream sandwiches (Can you imagine an ice cream sandwich made with homemade cookies and real ice cream? mmmm that would be awesome)

I happened to discover that folk can't lick their own elbows.  Really go try it.  Then go ask all your kids to try it, I guarantee some laughs!

Of course since the 'big kids' around here were tyring it, the little ones did too.  And it is a great way to reinforce rarely used body parts with them.  Little Man and Baby Girl practiced licking elbows, learned their shoulder was not an elbow.  And worked a bit on right vs left.

Of course after we did that I had to go on to a few other impossible tasks, like licking your own nose.  And Daddy started it all by asking the kids what one thing you can touch with your left hand that you can never touch with your right.

Since we had already wasted some time, I googled 'this people can't do' to waste more.  Well actually Google auto filled it in for me.  Apparently this is a rather hot topic for web surfing.

Most sites contain ideas rather too grown up for kids.  But we did try licking our noses (of course reviewing 'nostrils' for the little ones).  We also spent a bit of time working on flexibility.  Kissing knees, and toes, we found out the boys are far less flexible than the girls.

My only regret is not snapping pictures while we goofed off.

  1. Oh I love the fun of these activities. Selena spent a good part of the other morning trying to figure out why she couldn't scratch her ear with her foot like a dog, that came after an episode of Sid the Science Kid.
