Today we felt like reading a Latin story, so we headed over to Head venture land (does anyone else suffer from a mind that sinks to the gutter upon reading that url?)
Anyway, this time we choose "Battle in the snow" a full Latin reader.
We tried decoding a few words, and cheated a great deal with the handy 'click on a word to see it in English' feature.
Then we clicked the 'full text in English button' (little speech balloons top corner) and checked if we were right on the 'gist' of the sentences.
Well, mostly we did fine, until we discovered they were taking vast liberties with translation!
Take the page that says: "Regnum Defendite!" Regnum is city, Defendite is defend so we figured that meant defend the city.
Nope, according to their translation it is "They must protect the kingdom". Well that's not to far off, protect and defend are similar and with 'Reg' I would have guessed something royal.
OK so try "Ruedan las cabezas" umm doesn't that look Spanish for "roll the heads?" According to their full translation it is "Slaughter everywhere!" (before you worry my kid is reading horrible battle scenes, it was a snow army against snow beasts)
I think they are getting their Latin and Spanish a bit mixed up.
Edit to add, yes I was right, they went in the very next day and fixed it and sent me an email about it. I just forgot to mention it here. The site is really pretty nifty. The kids wish they could play with it more.
