A book and a 'look'

While studying Haydn I borrowed "The Boy who loved Music" by David Lasker,  from the library.  I t is a bit about a horn player who played in Haydn's orchestra, and a bit about the life at that time.  With a very interesting ending.  I think the book is better if your read before clicking, but I think this is the symphony the story is about. (part one of 4-with Picasso)

During nap-time one day, I asked the kids to 'draw the song'.  We were listening to Haydn again and I wondered what they each would think of.

We had recently watched Fantasia, along with several 'old school' cartoons where the music really matches the art.  So I had hoped to see something similar (only less animated).

Dude set to work on a tree.  Not what I expected, but he explained 'it is peaceful with a soft breeze blowing"
Then when the music changed, he made 'a loud party'

Little Man was very unsure of what to draw.  After repeat assurances that he couldn't really go wrong, he settled on his sister dancing and himself playing violin.

Princess set to work last (pesky chores had to be finished).  She also spent the longest detailing a full scene.

One of the last things we always do before moving on to a new composer, is a 'test.  I banish the kids to the kitchen (so they can't see the computer screen) and then I play a song from each of our favorite composers to see if they can name it.  Usually Dude can get the right composer.  Princess can 'humm' along and knows the next part, but like her Momma rarely can pin a name on the sound.

One of these days I would like to make a youtube 'test' with clips of all our fav's  but I have no idea how.
