Aleks trial is done

The kids finished up their Aleks trial today.

Dude managed 78%, Princess 82%, of their pie completed.

Both children really enjoyed being able to do their math on the computer.  I disliked having to lug around a Laptop when traveling for various events, but I was glad to see them looking forward to math.

The newness and excitement wore off sometime in the second month, but they feel math is important and were willing to continue.

For some reason Dude got an assessment nearly every week.  I grew tired of him doing the same silly mistakes and having to repeat the same lessons over and over again.  While I know he needed the extra practice at measuring height with a shadow, I grew SO tired of going over the explanation with him.  I could have told him to just skip it but...I didn't.  Over all I was VERY glad he had so much practice at graphing, the concepts are basic, but applying them correctly with a pencil and ruler is difficult to do accurately.  The program made it so easy to use the mouse to put the ruler over the points and 'slide' for a line (that will not go crooked even if your mouse slips!)  Not to mention the shading with one click and the dashed vs solid line.  Really the graphing is so nice.

Princess tended to only get an assessment every other week.  She generally did well, though as always her multiplication and division facts are a bit shaky.  We need to work on speed and accuracy for those.

If the price were more reasonable I would consider buying at least one month to allow the children to finish the whole 'pie'.  But the price is not only out of our League, it is well beyond what I would consider worthwhile for a math program.

Next week it is back to Saxon for Dude and Singapore for Princess.
