Throw it right

Huh, I have often used the phrase 'dropping balls' to describe how much trouble I have with juggling scouts, parenting and such.

This post, On Juggling,  has me thinking I just might be looking at it all wrong.

Apparently the true secret to being a good juggler is throwing it right and trusting it will come back down right when you need to toss it again.  Err, yeah, that would be my problem, letting go of one ball to focus on the next.

For the most part in my life the tasks, parenting, homeschooling, scouting, co-op, 4H, church, and the like do all come in order.  Maybe not with perfectly spaced intervals, but they do all take a turn.  (well except the parenting, I never seem to let go of that one).

If I could just learn to leave parenting in one hand, and toss the other balls in turn, trusting that I tossed them well enough to focus on one at at time, I might get better at this.

Or I might be surrounded by a bunch of dropped balls :).

This week I had another offer of help for the GS and the CS, plus a few simple tasks were done and ready to be tossed aside, which should free up some focus.  I have also been able to help my oldest see why we have schedules, because if you think you have all the time in the world you will take all the time in the world!

Which means he is more willing to do PE, piano, and then move to written work quickly, and I am able to toss the homeschooling ball at lunch time confident it will land right back where it belongs on the morrow.  The other kids have such easy balls to toss I don't worry quite so much about them.

Now if I could just get so good at tossing the Cub scout ball.
