Decisions, Decisions

Recently there have been a lot of 'decisions' that needed dealt with for Scouts, co-op, and homeschooling.   Nothing major, but all could have been catastrophes.  I guess anything could be.

The final results are so far doing just fine.  The rest prolly will be fine too.

The older I get the more I see how 'when one door closes a window opens elsewhere'.  I also see the futility of worrying about which door or window is the right one.

Most of the time it really is '6 of one, half a dozen of the other' and either will do fine.

I have found that when I do choose a door, I choose wrong.  Something happens, so we fall back on 'door number 2'.  Generally that works out fine.  If not there is prolly a 'door number 3'.  Or a window, or something.

In my old age,  I have started to prefer the 'Salvor Hardin' method of planning (from Asmov's Foundation books)  I think he was the one who said he was planning to do nothing till there was only one path left.

When trying to plan, if there are too many variables, I like to wait.  Some outside factor will make one door or the other better or worse, or closed completely, or open a new one.

To give you an example we are planning a trip, there happens to be a great deal of time to do such things right now.  So which day do we leave on?  Two months ago, the options were endless.

Last week they were down to 7.  Today only 2 remain.

How about I wait another day and then the decision will  be made for me?

Another example, the Ren fest is coming here.  Which weekend shall we go?  Back in September, almost any weekend would do.  As the time went by information came to help me narrow it down to the one weekend we can go.

Of course once you narrow it down, you have to pencil it in.  Otherwise you risk not being able to do it at all.
But I only use pencil, something might change.

linking up with  because it was the first thing on FB when I finished the post and started to close my 'tabs'.

  2. Loved this post! I am always so anxious over things, and really, it all does work out in the end. I am slowly learning to apply exactly what you stated, that when one door seems to close, it's not the end of the world.

    Stopping by from the HHH!
