Does a drawing book count as reading?

I absolutely love this book 'Fantasy drawing by V. Shane!  Seriously click the link and check out the 'see inside' you can see he actually goes into the drawing techniques without losing the easy 'how to draw' pages.

We spent several nights checking out the instructions, actually reading them, and then following some of the ideas.  Dude drew a pretty good elfish creature (this is Dude we are talking about, the boy who generally uses squared boxes with stick arms and legs for all creatures)

Princess and little man didn't find the book quite as fascinating, though they did draw along with quite a few interesting results.

I promise we did some reading over the week as well, but this book was so captivating for Dude I thought it was well worth sharing.

  1. Interesting - I'm always looking for books to help the children with their love of drawing (I can't draw at all) - we'll check it out.

my 4 year old can follow his ideas for pretty decent fish and dinos. Least way better than I could draw myself.

  3. Sounds like a good one. We've found a few step-by-step drawing books that my 6 year old has been able to use to make some pretty decent pictures.
