As anyone can see over on the sidebar, we are not done with year 2 of AO, even though it is well into June. I blame the baby. Well that and we are not in as big a rush as one might think.
We generally do most of the reading at naptime, and naps do not go away when summer is here. So I need to have something planned to read. Not that I couldn't fill the time myself :).
Anyway, in spite of not being done, we are almost there, and it brings up the question. "what next?" Quite simply we are going to switch to year 3 right after. I see no reason not to.
I checked the list of books, most are online or at the library. I had to request 3 as gifts. It just so happens folk have been asking me what I need now that I have a baby. The ones who know me well are not surprised that what I need has nothing to do with the baby!
I did after all have 4 before this, all the essentials are still here. Actually I aught to write a blog post on how little we really need to have a baby....I doubt this nap time will last long enough today though.
Some might wonder why we are reading only one year of AO, when I have 3 children who are 'of age' for formal education. The short answer is time, I don't have a lot of it! I don't really have a long answer. Basically my older two will be listening almost any time I am reading, so it makes sense to have them 'need' to hear the same stuff. Little Man is borderline to young to focus for that long, so I honestly do not want to start him on required listening yet.
Not that we never read to him, on the contrary he both reads to us, and is read to quite a bit, but for the longer AO selections I have no qualms about him drifting off to his room to read on his own, or him in his own little world in the same room.
Anyway, we will prolly repeat AO year 1 when he is older, perhaps read to him by Princess and or Dude for their reinforcement.
yep, naptime is over, here comes Baby Girl!
